April 13, 2020What activities can be enjoyed at Tswalu Kalahari?
April 15, 2020Tswalu Kalahari has two amazing lodges, the gorgeous Motse Main Lodge & the luxurious Tarkuni Homestead, along with a little outdoor surprise called Malori.
Motse Main Lodge
The Motse is the main lodge, which has nine ‘legae’ (or, dwellings), each with their own gorgeous viewing deck which gives you the chance to see wildlife wander past while you sit outside with your gin and tonic. They are absolutely enormous inside and certainly give the flats in London a run for their money! Not only that but they fit in line with the feel of the Kalahari, all beautifully designed and tastefully decorated to really make the most of that savannah feel. The heat of the day is combatted by the way the rooms have been built. However, when the temperatures drop at night, the heat is also captured by the large open fireplaces in front of super comfy seating areas. If you fancy making the most of your private space, there are outdoor sunbeds you can chill out on while you indulge in snacks from your very own home-made gourmet snack pantry.
Motse’s main lodge area is vast and immensely welcoming, with gorgeous artwork dotted all over the place reflecting the area you’re in. The swimming pool is a welcome oasis in the midday heat. If you’re a bit of a nutter (as some folk are), there is also a fully-fledged Technogym® which has views out over the incredible wilderness where you can enjoy getting your sweat on in a fully airconditioned room while you watch antelope mosey on past, or birds flit in and out of nests just outside.
A short walk away is the pampering spa, and those who are more into enjoying a tipple or three, you can have a look through the beautiful walk-in wine cellar which is fully stocked with the most delicious South African wines. After a day snapping away on your camera, the lodge has also set up a beautiful space for you as a Photographic studio so you can look back on the excitement and find your besties to send to your family back home. We all loving bragging rights, don’t we?
Tarkuni Homestead Luxury Lodge
The other luxury lodge is called the Tarkuni Homestead, which was once the Oppenheimer’s family home. This is absolutely perfect for families, or indeed for groups of friends to come and chill out in the middle of the stunning red sands of the Kalahari. With your own private chef and guide, you will be able to experience the most amazing untouched home in the peace of this remarkable private game reserve.
Each of the private suites has it’s own mega bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, enough space to swing a meercat and are most definitely a home away from home. You can also enjoy your private terrace with stunning day beds which you can pull out to slumber beneath the stars – a sight which we know will take your breath away. With no light pollution, you really can’t even begin to count them!
As with all private homes, you will also get to enjoy a lovely outdoor swimming pool, library and games room, stunning boma for those afternoon braais and spa therapy suite to treat yourself!
Tswalu Kalahari's sleep out experience - Malori
Oh – one more thing. Have you ever heard of the Malori? This is Tswalu Kalahari’s amazing sleep-out experience, where you can literally sleep out in the middle of the savannah in a stunning bedroom in the wild, surrounded by nothing but sand and stunning views. The sleep-out will give you the chance to watch thousands of stars slowly spin around you while you sit listening to the sounds of the night, and in total peace and solitude.
You will enjoy your dinner here as well as your breakfast, and watch the world (and wildlife!) go by. This sleep-out is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to really experience luxury in total seclusion. But don’t worry – your guide is just a walkie-talkie call away if you need them!
