July 6, 2020Is it safe to travel to Africa?
July 23, 2020Zambia is the undiscovered treasure of Africa. With extraordinary natural beauty, it is one of the most pristine and unspoiled wildlife havens on the continent. We admittedly might be a little biased when it comes to Zambia given our very own consultant Sammy was born there… we, therefore, thought we'd give you the facts about why Zambia is ideal for your next Tailormade Africa safari so that you don't just take our word for it!
Zambian National Parks
Remarkably, approximately 30% of the total land in Zambia is protected and is either a National Park or a Game Management Area. This is one of the highest proportions in Southern Africa, which means a third of the country is rich in not only wildlife but also pure, untouched natural beauty. With 20 National Parks to explore, you really would need to come back time and time again to truly have 'done' the country!
The Zambian side of the Victoria Falls
The thundering grandeur of the Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world) draws most visitors to this gentle and peaceful country, not least due to its easy access from main hubs in Africa including Johannesburg in South Africa. It makes for a perfect beginning or ending to your African adventure, and given the water that flows over the falls varies in quantity throughout the year, there really are so many opportunities to capture its majesty. The falls are known locally as Mosi-ao-Tunya ('The Smoke that Thunders'), during the highest flow it really looks like a tremendous smoke cloud from a distance. Many travellers prefer to see the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side and some claim (not just Sammy) that the views are even more spectacular. Unlike on the Zimbabwean side, you can head down into the canyon below (known as the Boiling Pot), which is a hike not for the faint-hearted but gives you a super vantage point as you gaze up at the mighty falls rather than across from it. You can also visit Livingstone's Island or if you're feeling very brave, sit in Devils Pool right on the edge of the falls – an exhilarating experience and obviously one that is only accessible when the water is at its lowest!
The raw African bush & walking safaris
Beyond the falls, Zambia is not as high-profile a safari destination as Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, but it's a favourite with those that truly love an African safari experience. Packed with untamed wilderness and fascinating wildlife but without the commercialisation, Zambia is a raw and romantic African bush experience. It's also a great destination for all those looking for adventure as Zambia is a competitor to Zimbabwe for the title of 'adventure capital' of Africa.
All of this raw wilderness makes Zambia an ideal location for some incredible walking safaris. In fact, the country is considered the 'home of the walking safari', particularly in the South and North Luangwa National Parks. Here the excellent visibility and concentrations of animals near the river mean that close encounters with some of Africa's most iconic animals are almost guaranteed. You can even head out on night drives in the South Luangwa in search of the smaller nocturnal creatures, and the density of leopards here is higher than anywhere else in the world.
The locals
As everyone knows, one of the highlights of travelling comes down to the experiences you have getting to know the locals. Well, Zambians are some of the warmest and most hospitable of nationalities and are truly fascinating given they have so many beautiful tribes up and down the country. Incredibly, there are over 70 local languages and dialects, although the main spoken language is English. Zambians are very proud of their beautiful country, but also very kind-hearted, humble, and hand-on-heart are some of the most talented safari guides in Africa!
A Zambia Safari Holiday really is great value for money
Vast lakes and wetlands, long and life-giving rivers and breath-taking African sunsets all contribute to Zambia's immense attractiveness as a safari destination. Famous for exceptional guiding and high-quality camps, Zambia offers fantastic value-for-money already, and so this really cannot be a better time to commit to a Zambian safari given there are so many more savings you can make on our offers! If you want to come away with a heart filled with incredible experiences, more photos than you know what to do with and even a few Zambian friends, we really cannot more highly recommend this beautiful land-locked country.
An exciting Zambian adventure - 10-nights
This incredible 10-night safari covers two of the premier parks in Zambia – the South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi plus Livingstone, home to the spectacular Victoria Falls. The Luangwa Valley, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoiled wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. The Luangwa River flows into the Zambezi River – just below the Lower Zambezi National Park. This park, scenically bordered by an impressive escarpment, has excellent game, which can be viewed from either the river or by land. Just imagine quietly drifting past a huge elephant while it gets its fill of tasty greenery or helping itself to a thirst-quenching drink - a life-changing experience to say the least! Livingstone is home to the mighty Victoria Falls and offers many opportunities, both adrenaline filled and more sedate, to view this humbling sight. There are game viewing opportunities too, with a chance to see the white rhino in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and river trips on the Zambezi River. Combining these three areas in Zambia gives you an exceptional safari, and we are excited to share it with you!
What's the fine print?
This gorgeous itinerary is available for travel from 01 April to 15 November 2021 and is valid for all new bookings only. The special rate has been calculated as per this itinerary from $8,167 PPS – SAVE $750 each, however, should you wish to add extra nights we can with pleasure tailor an itinerary to you personally - everything we do is bespoke, after all!
Anabezi & Lion Camp Zambia: stay 8, pay for 6 nights!
Fancy 8 nights in the Zambian bush to truly escape the world? We have just the thing for you! Two of our favourite camps in Zambia have just introduced this incredible combination with two free nights at a significantly reduced rate of just $7,060 per person sharing (in low season*) - a saving of at least $973 each!
This amazing 8-night deal gives you the chance to experience two premium safari experiences with four nights at Anabezi, located on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park and four nights at Lion Camp, a hidden Gem located in the northernmost reaches of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park.
Anabezi Camp has been named from the Ana Trees, or Winter Thorns, that surround it. It's more than a luxurious camp, but home to all kinds of wildlife, including our featured friends! All you'll need to discover some of the rarest birds around, and tick off a few of the 500 bird species in the area, all you'll need is a pair of binoculars! Besides the amazing land-based safari activities, including game drives and walking safaris, the Lower Zambezi is the perfect opportunity to do some incredible river activities. We highly recommend getting involved in canoeing and boating, where you'll be mere metres away from feasting elephants as they spend long, lazy days by the riverbanks. From crocodiles to hippo pods, rare birds and freshwater fish, this experience is truly once-in-a-lifetime.
Next up is Zambia's South Luangwa National Park, which is one of the best National Parks in Africa for an authentic, truly African wilderness safari. Lion Camp is located in the northernmost reaches of the park, away from park gates, ensuring an unforgettable wildlife experience without the congestion of other vehicles and masses of people, where you'll be entirely at one with nature! The South Luangwa is well known for its walking safaris where you will learn how to track, seeing how close you can come to smaller game like impala or bushbucks without them being aware of your presence. Crouch behind a bush to catch a glimpse of a passing elephant or buffalo. Smell and taste wild herbs, learning their traditional uses, and explore the smaller marvels of the bush, from the magnificent tapestry of a spider's web to the microscopic world of the dung beetle. Engage all your senses as you discover an unexpected world where each sound and scent and every bent blade of grass have a meaning!
Ultimately, combining these two locations allows you to experience all the highlights that Zambia has to offer from the land to the river - game drives, walking safaris, boat trips, fishing, canoeing and birding - in two of the most fantastic and wild National Parks in Africa.
This offer is being extended for travel from 20 May 2021 to 31 October 2021 and is valid for all new bookings only. The special rate has been calculated as per this itinerary, and therefore nights cannot be added, nor accommodation swapped. However, changes to the core package are not permitted. The start date of the package determines the pricing used (in the event that the package falls over two price seasons).
