March 16, 2020After hearing all of the hype over the Silo Hotel since it opened in March 2017, I couldn’t wait to visit it to see for myself. During my last visit to Cape Town, I was lucky enough to get to see it for myself.
The Silo Hotel, Cape Town’s most exclusive luxury hotel and member of the Royal Portfolio is a five-star hotel located in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. It is surrounded by the natural beauty of South Africa’s Mother City and offers panoramic city views. It was built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), which houses Africa’s most extensive collection of contemporary African art. During the refurbishment, ingenious glass windows were inserted into the geometry of the hotel floors. These multi-faceted structures glisten like diamonds during the day, while at night the building transforms into a glowing beacon in the harbour.
The Rooms at the Silo Hotel
The Silo Hotel offers 28 rooms, including a spectacular one-bedroom penthouse. Each room has been individually designed and decorated by the stylish wand of Liz Biden.
During my visit, I was lucky enough to visit one of the bedrooms and the one-bedroom penthouse. On entering the room, I could not believe my eyes! There, in front of me was a room full of colourful, eclectic pieces juxtaposing the modern, industrial architecture, with the most incredible views of Cape Town. The spacious suite was surrounded with huge windows that brought in an abundance of natural light that complemented the array of colours in the room. The opulent bathroom had a bath overlooking the V&A Waterfront, and I couldn’t think of a better place to soak in the view.
Dining at The Silo
Of course, a visit to the Silo Hotel wouldn’t be complete without a trip to The Silo Rooftop for some Sundowners. With a glass of MCC Rosé in hand, I got to enjoy a magnificent sunset with spectacular panoramic views of Cape Town. Hotel guests can also get to enjoy the array of poolside treats from the rooftop infinity pool.
In addition to The Silo Rooftop, there are several other dining options. The Granary Café serves up contemporary cuisine for lunch and dinner and also offers a Sunday Roast and a Royal Tea Experience. Should you wish to dine more privately, The Silo Hotel also provides a number of private dining options. For a pre or post-dinner drink, The Willaston Bar welcomes guests with their selection of crafted cocktails, classic drinks and an indulgent variety of local and international wines.
The Silo Spa
A stay at the Silo Hotel is not complete without a visit to the indulgent spa. The Silo Spa is located on the fourth floor of the hotel and has five treatment rooms, two of which can be made into a couple’s room. Relaxation is natural in the tranquil space, and the expert therapists are there to offer signature treatments that are personally tailored after individual consultations. There is also a gym, sauna and dedicated manicure and pedicure area.
The Silo Experiences
A stay at The Silo Hotel not only offers luxury accommodation, but it can also provide extraordinary experiences. A tailored Art Tour, a Helicopter Ride to Franschhoek for lunch at sister hotel La Residence, or suggestions of the best restaurants in Cape Town by the Concierge, are just the start. A Honeymoon at The Silo will also be one to remember with private in-room dining, and spa treatments on the hotel rooftop are available.
I loved every minute spent at The Silo and hope to come back again to indulge in more of its offerings. If you are looking for a five-star hotel, that offers timeless glamour, contemporary luxury and personalised service, then a stay at The Silo is a must.
