July 25, 2022An 11-year-old's first South African safari experience
Clyde Beaty (Co-founder of Tailormade Africa) took his family on their very first African Safari adventure. Instead of us telling you all about their trip, we thought we would use the perfect spokesperson to tell the story - 11-year-old James, Clyde's son, who experienced his first-ever safari and trip to Africa! Here is his account of this amazing adventure!
Babylonstoren is the most magical place I’ve ever been!
The amount of sites and activities are incredible, with numerous family-friendly tours and drives. The staff are extremely enthusiastic and kind and will always lend a hand if you need help with anything.
For breakfast, the staff offer fresh fruit and yummy pastries made just for you (my mum was really impressed by the delicious croissants!)
Babylonstoren offers more fruit and veg than you could ever imagine and allows you to pick fruit and eat it without asking.
For water activities there is an enormous pool with sun loungers on the sides, a lake for fishing on and canoes for those of you who love water sports (I remember my sister standing up in a canoe and then consequently tipping my mum off it, my sister didn’t even get wet!)
There is also farm animals such as donkeys, chickens, turkeys and hedgehogs. I also remember unexpectedly seeing some springbok which I had never seen before, so that was a treat! The cabins that you might be staying in provides cosy furniture and your own mini kitchen! Your cabin will also include a fireplace that you can light on especially cold days.
Outside your cabin, is a set of bicycles for you to enjoy and cycle about in. Babylonstoren offers other amazing surprises like a spa, a gym, some cottages and thirteen dams! This extraordinary location blew me away and I hope it does the same to you.

Babylonstoren Farm Hotel
Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms. It has a fruit and vegetable garden of beauty and diversity, unique accommodation, fine food and a sense of wellbeing.
Dating back to 1692, the fortunes of this historic fruit and wine farm took a turn ten years ago when it fell under the gaze of former magazine editor Karen Roos.
Her passion for historic Cape Dutch style led to an authentic yet contemporary restoration that protects the farm into the future.
It truly is a spectacular spot for the whole family to enjoy. There is something for everyone at this immaculate working farm in the Cape of South Africa.
