March 18, 2020Gemma and the Tailormade Africa team spent a few days in the De Hoop Nature Reserve while experiencing everything Lekkerwater Beach Lodge has to offer.
My first thought was how remote we were and that was a marvellous realisation! I was so excited about the upcoming experience with four nights of peace, tranquillity and outdoor adventures.
Lekkerwater means ‘the place of good water’ and how right this is. There are seven rooms which are positioned along a beautiful stretch of coastline, all with spectacular and unique views of the Indian Ocean and marine life. Each room has floor-to-ceiling windows, a private deck to relax on, an en-suite bathroom and a wood-burning stove for the winter months.
I was also wowed by the views from the main area and its wrap-around deck. Whether I was seeking shade or sunshine, there was always somewhere I could sit to soak in the view of that beautiful blue sea and the pristine white sand beach.
There was also a comfortable lounge inside where we were able to relax with a drink and enjoy good conversation and play card and board games with the other guests.
Activities at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge
As well as time for relaxation, there were several activities on offer at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge. One of the mornings we went on a 2-hour guided marine walk which was fantastic. While exploring the tidal pools and caves, we saw such an abundance of marine wildlife, including schools of fish, Octopus and Star Fish, to name a few. We also went on a guided walk through the Fynbos, where we discovered and learnt about numerous plant species in the De Hoop Nature Reserve. Our guide Billy was so knowledgeable and I loved learning new things about the local flora and fauna and wildlife.
Lekkerwater Beach Lodge is also known for some of the best land-based Whale watching in the world. As well as the Southern Right Whales, Brydes Whales and Humpback Whales can also be spotted. We were visiting outside the Whale season but we were still lucky to spot pods of Dolphins swimming by every day.
There is also a swimming pool and a recently fitted Jacuzzi on the beach at Lekkerwater. We got to enjoy a glass of wine in the Jacuzzi on one of the days, which was delightful.
An Abundance of 5-Star Food and Drink
The food and drink at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge was one of my highlights and all meals and selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the rate. An interactive kitchen was at the heart of the main area and dining was a communal affair each day. I loved this, as it was very sociable and we became good friends with the other guests. We were also able to help ourselves to drinks at any point during the day and there was a wonderful informal nature to the experience, which made us feel right at home.
Each evening before dinner sundowners were a feature and one evening we were surprised by having them on the beach, which was marvellous. Sipping a glass of MCC, while the sun was setting in front of us, accompanied by the sound of the waves in the background was just fantastic.
The food each day was varied, freshly made on-site, healthy and delicious. We also ate in different locations around the lodge and one of the days we had a private lunch on the beach, which I loved.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at Lekkerbeach Lodge. The hospitality was fantastic, the activities were unique, interesting and exciting and the accommodation was of a very high standard. I would love to return during the Whale season in September to get to experience this magnificent offering at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge.
