“We’re in this together”. That’s what we have been hearing left, right and centre from all of our cherished clients and valued partners across Africa. Now more than ever, booking a holiday could be the kindest thing you do.
It's difficult, worrying and frustrating for all of us, but booking your African Safari Holiday now is doing more than just giving you something exciting to look forward to in the future. Even though booking a holiday might not feel like the right thing to do right now – we can assure you, it really is.
Many industries have taken a massive hit, but with travel currently accounting for 10% of global GDP, we're unfortunately expecting to see around 50 million jobs cut worldwide in the travel and tourism industry alone.
That bleak thought aside, we feel truly blessed to be working in the travel and tourism industry, which is warm and passionate – and this is even more obvious when it comes to the African continent. Our partners on the ground have shown such resilience, even though things have been tricky for them to say the least. Rather than thinking about their own pockets, they have just one concern: to continue to support their local communities as they have been and minimise the impact on them during the crisis.
As we all 'stay home', our partners are still working hard day-in-day-out to keep supporting their employees and their families, as well as the projects they have been contributing to as a result of guests visiting them.
Want to be a part of the solution? Take a look at some of our Hero Partners below who are heavily discounting to get bums in beds and keep their communities thriving
We just love Wilderness Safaris who have helped to create the first community conservancy in Namibia at their Damaraland Camp in partnership with the Torra Community. More than 85% of Wilderness Safaris camp staff come from remote, rural communities and each camp staff member directly supports seven people as a result of their employment. Wilderness Safaris have positively impacted the lives of more than 10,000 children in seven African countries.
African Bush Camps is another partner of ours that we just love for their incredible community work. Their dedicated Foundation has been striving since 2006 to empower the communities by given them tools to become self-sustaining and independent, whilst also promoting conservation and community spirit. 100% of donations given go directly toward the projects and this can only happen because of people visiting their camps in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Moving East and to Asilia Africa, who have a very passionate programme in place which focuses on improving the lives of local people and the surrounding nature. They have taken an area approach to ensure that they empower crucial wilderness areas in East Africa, with the goal of sustaining the integrity of the entire ecosystem they work within and create benefits and opportunities for the local people. In 2014 they set up an online donation platform called Asilia Giving, which allows philanthropists to connect to projects that are tested and are making a meaningful and measurable difference on the ground, many of which are also directly impacted by visitors staying in the Asilia Africa camps.
So, while we understand the hesitance to book a safari now with all of this ongoing uncertainty, we can assure you that Tailormade Africa will be there to support you no matter what happens. We urge you to look at our gorgeous itineraries which we have put together in collaboration with our Hero Partners, Wilderness Safaris, African Bush Camps and Asilia Africa.
