Six weeks, eight matches, and three tests of epic competition between our British and Irish Lions and the current world champions, South Africa on the Lions tour 2021. Are you excited? We certainly are!

The rich history of the Lions Tour

As we are sure you're well aware - South Africa is synonymous with the British and Irish Lions. It is where the modern-day legend of the Lions was cast into history thanks to the feats of Willie John McBride's invincibles in 1974 and the triumph sealed under Martin Johnson in 1997.

South Africa the hosts of Lions Tour 2021

But there is more to South Africa than simply rugby, and don't we know it? As specialists in the region, we are chuffed to bits that the Lions Tour is back in South Africa again. South Africa is one of the best countries to visit in the world (yes, we may be biased). Charming, warm and unbelievably wonderful people, a hugely diverse landscape perfect for exploring, and a history which will keep you intrigued and learning every second you spend on the ground.

The British and Irish Lions will play three Test matches against the Springboks on Saturday the 24th of July in Johannesburg, Saturday the 31st of July in Cape Town and then a potential series decider on Saturday the 07th of August back in Johannesburg. And with five other matches that will also take place in Port Elizabeth, Durban, Nelspruit and Pretoria, this is not only a journey to the home of the current World Cup winners but an adventure to one of the greatest countries on the planet.

Tour of South Africa

The best news of all? We can help you plan your Lions Tour 2021 with just one phone call! Here at Tailormade Africa, we can help you book your visit with lovely accommodation in any (or all!) of the cities where the games are happening. And, if you're up for some R&R at the start or end of your exciting Rugby fix, we can help you there, too!

There is so much to love about South Africa, and we think you'll agree. Not only is it rich from a land-based wildlife perspective, offering some of the best opportunities for a big five safari on the continent, but it also boasts a vast coastline which is equally as rich in marine life with seals, whales and great white sharks galore. If you aren't into photography, we can guarantee you will be by the end of a trip here!

Explore the rich history of South Africa

You're also sure to feel completely awed by the life-affirming history of the country. Around every corner, you will find something new and at each opportunity, you will get to truly understand the fabric of South Africa and appreciate how far the country has come. We're huge fans of the many museums around. We would highly recommend a visit to Robben Island, where you can have a tour of the prison where Mandela was incarcerated – a tour given by one of the previous inmates. Such history is quite overwhelming, and South Africa really has lived it all.

Wine anyone?

If wildlife and history aren't the two things that come to mind when you think of South Africa, we're pretty sure wine will be. The vineyards around Cape Town, the 'actual' Winelands region, plus further along the west and southern coast, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting your preferred grape. We also think that South Africa should be celebrated for the incredible food on offer. Tucking into some of the best seafood on the continent with a glass of something chilled truly is bliss! Mouth-watering steaks with a Merlot – delish. Or, if you're more into Vegetarian or Veganism, then you're in the best place for it. The farms in the country provide some of the freshest most delicious (and sometimes obscure) fruits and veggies which will satisfy even the staunchest carnivore!

Lions Tour Trip Extenders

If you're keen to make the most of your journey to the most southern tip of Africa, we're delighted to let you know that South Africa is incredibly well connected with other stunning safari locations around the continent. As specialists in the region, we can help you plan an 'extender' to your Lions Tour itinerary entirely bespoke.

Fancy visiting the mighty Victoria Falls in Zambia or Zimbabwe? Easy! Or, why not jump on a plane up to Botswana and over to the stunning Okavango Delta for some 'real' lions action? That's just a one and a half hour flight from Johannesburg! Or why not try something more chilled out like some beach time in Mozambique or the Seychelles? Ultimately, we are here to help so feel free to pick up the phone and give us a call.
