Seychelles Holidays FAQs
Seychelles is a country which is made up of 115 islands all scattered over a secluded corner of the Indian Ocean. The three main islands in the Seychelles are Mahé, Praslin and La Digue where each one has its own story to tell, and together with all of the other private islands dotted around, Seychelles is absolutely perfect for a little island hopping! One of the world’s smallest capitals is Victoria Seychelles which is on Mahé, and perfect for you to explore the gorgeous Botanical Gardens or the Sir Selwyn Clarke Market. Here you can immerse yourself in the Seychellois culture and try some of the most delicious Creole food, fresh from the sea. By visiting Seychelles you’re also most definitely going to see at least one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, including Anse Lazio on Praslin Island, or Anse Source D’Argent on La Digue Island – easily one of the most photographed ever!
Here at Tailormade Africa, we create all of our trips bespoke so can easily organise for you to have your own private guide and driver who can show you all the best spots and give you loads of in-depth info which will truly bring Seychelles to life!
There are so many to name, there isn’t just one! That said, we believe that people make a place and Seychelles is no exception. With a culture that is a gorgeous mixture of French and African (Creole), a visit to the Seychelles will be complemented by the passion and pride the Seychellois have for their country. In addition to the beautiful people (and beyond the visual splendour of the Seychelles), you’ll find a pristine natural environment which is home to unique flora and fauna that you simply cannot find anywhere else on the planet.
Just one example of this is the very rare and endemic coco de mer palm tree which can only be found growing on two islands in the world, both of them in Seychelles (Praslin and Curieuse). In terms of wildlife, there are just over ten species of bird which are endemic to the Seychelles Islands including the rare Seychelles Black Parrot and the even rarer Bare-legged Scops Owl, a treat for any nature lover! And, of the two Giant Tortoise species in the world, Seychelles is home to one – the Aldabra Giant Tortoise. You could even be lucky enough to meet the world’s oldest and largest Giant Tortoise, Esmeralda, who is currently living his best life on Bird Island at the grand old age of 170-something!
Here at Tailormade Africa, we have partnered up with some of the best Seychelles hotels which means that we can help you to design the ultimate trip to this picture-perfect destination. We have a superb selection of Seychelles resorts, whether it is a private island resort such as Six Senses Zil Pasyon, North Island or Fregate Private Island or indeed one of the other many luxury resorts which are located on Mahé, Praslin or La Digue Island. We particularly love Maia Luxury Resort & Spa and Banyan Tree (both of which are on Mahé), and the Constance Hotels are a favourite (Ephelia on Mahé and Lemuria on Praslin) as they make a super island-hopping combination itinerary!
This is a tough question to answer, as there is so much to explore in this beautiful country – we simply wouldn’t be able to pick! That said, if you were to enjoy an island hopping holiday then you could combine some of the top attractions on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. The capital city of Victoria is on Mahé and is absolutely fantastic for some traditional architecture and sightseeing, with a buzzing market place you really will feel that one of the world’s smallest capitals has a lot to offer! Then over on Praslin, you can visit the stunning Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve which is not only home to the very rare and endemic coco de mer palm and the endangered black parrot, it is also a UNESCO heritage site with over 4km of trails for you to explore. Visiting La Digue gives you the chance to bike around the whole island on the hunt for the most beautiful beach in the world, all the while enjoying some of the most delicious Creole cuisine and a tipple of locally brewed rum. As we said, there is so much more but these would be a good starting point!
We love to say that the Seychelles is a year-round destination, although it’s well worth noting that the two opposing trade winds do make a difference as to where you go within the country. It also depends on what you’d like to do! Sailing and snorkelling can be enjoyed all year round, diving is best between March and May or September and November, and if you’re up for fishing then October through to April will be the winning months. Hikes are best from May to September as are opportunities to windsurf… so you see, it really does depend.
Essentially, the official rainy season is between November and March, with the wettest months falling in late December through to February. That said this is also the height of summer and temperatures soar which dries things up quite quickly. You’ll have light winds over this period which makes it very pleasant and either side of the change in winds (April and October) the weather will be the calmest in anticipation of the swap. Ultimately you can expect beautiful sunshine, warm seas and lowest temperatures year-round ranging from 23C/74F to 25C/77F and highs of between 27C/80F and 30C/86F. Bliss.
One of the greatest things about the Seychelles is that it offers just about everything you could ever hope for in a honeymoon destination. Planning a wedding can be pretty exhausting and don’t we know it? If you’re looking for the ultimate in relaxation and spending quality time together as a couple, then this beautiful island paradise will deliver. Enjoying invigorating sunshine as you walk hand-in-hand along stunning sandy beaches and enjoying private meals surrounded by the sound of the ocean, or indeed being pampered in a couples spa treatment – you really will be well looked after. Once you’ve had your fill of downtime, the amazing opportunities for water sports and exploring the islands by foot or on a bike in search for one of the many giant tortoises will keep you busy, to say the least!
CHOOSE FROM THREEPRISTINE BEACHES
The beaches in Seychelles are quite frankly utterly incredible. Very rarely will you be able to see such pristine sand with a backdrop of crystal-clear azure seas. There are lots of beautiful beaches in Seychelles which we could easily nominate as the world’s best beach, but no matter what, we would always include a visit to at least one of these beaches in our tailormade Seychelles holidays.

How Many Days Are Sufficient to Visit Seychelles?
First and foremost it’s worth remembering that here at Tailormade Africa we design all of our itineraries entirely bespoke! The great thing about Seychelles is that there is so much to explore, even if you came for a month and filled your heart with this beautiful destination, we have no doubt you’d be back again and again. In truth we would say that staying less than 7 nights would be a real shame, particularly if you want to embrace an island hopping holiday.
The Seychelles resorts and hotels have all you would need to live there comfortably without leaving once in a 7-night stay but it would be a shame to miss out on the all the amazing activities and places you could otherwise explore. Ultimately it depends on the type of trip you want!
We often design bespoke itineraries where the Seychelles are the ‘end’ to a safari and having a week-long stay on a private island is absolutely perfect. We’d suggest 10 nights to make the most of the attractions though, including visiting Vallée de Mai on Praslin - a really unique experience and home to the Seychelles’ largest intact forest of the endemic (and rare!) coco-de-mer. At just 19.5ha the Vallée de Mai is one of the world’s smallest UNESCO World Heritage Sites and has around 4km of trails for you to follow! Keep an eye out for the Black Parrot which is known to live in these parts and is also endemic to the Seychelles. We would definitely want you to experience biking around La Digue!
How Good is Seychelles for a Vacation?
We may be a tad biased, but we just LOVE Seychelles and think it really is world class as far as truly fabulous trips go! Seychelles holidays can be as active or inactive as you please – and this certainly makes it one of our go-to spots for folk who are looking for something different to do on their next holiday. You could spend all day in a luxurious spa and hang out in your very own infinity pool if you really wanted to, but for those who want to tick the active box, you won’t be short of choices. Not only will you be able to enjoy all the brilliant water-based activities of SCUBA diving, snorkelling, kayaking, paddle-boarding and windsurfing but you can also set out for some wonderful hikes and if you’re lucky find some rare endemic bird species or even spot yourself a giant tortoise or three!
Conservation efforts in Seychelles are celebrated worldwide and many resorts encourage guests to get involved with their in-house efforts. Another fun activity is grabbing a push bike to explore beautiful La Digue, the fourth largest island in Seychelles. It is well known for the stunning granite boulders which adorn breathtakingly beautiful beaches, including famous Anse Source D’Argent. Bliss.
