Samantha Kelly aka Sammy was born in the Copperbelt in Northern Zambia making her a true Africa Baby. Back in the ‘70s, her mother Jane worked for the Father of Walking Safaris, Norman Carr, in the South Luangwa and passed on her passion for the African bush to Sam who has truly lived and breathed Africa ever since. Immediately out of school she was the relief Catering Manager for a community-owned safari lodge in the South Luangwa, before heading to University in Leeds, England, to complete a Bachelor Degree in International Tourism Management. As part of her course, at the age of 20, she went back home to Zambia and worked as the General Manager for a boutique lodge on the outskirts of Lusaka for a year before finishing her degree.
Following her passion for the continent, Sammy set up and managed the Africa Department for what is now a well-known and prestigious international luxury Tour Operator based in London. After many years exploring and sharing Africa with her discerning clients, Sam moved into a couple of roles within the luxury travel sector to expand her understanding of the wider travel industry and it was during one of these roles where she met Clyde & Rob and was delighted to realise their equal passion for all things Africa and travel… and the rest is history!
Alongside her work with the team at Tailormade Africa, Sam is working on achieving her Masters in Responsible Tourism Management at the only course certified by the UNWTO.TedQual programme established by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
Sammy brings over 12 years of experience working with Africa and has explored the continent widely. Her experience includes camping on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, marvelling at elephants swimming in the Zambezi river in Zimbabwe, ticking off over 127 bird species in the Okavango Delta in Botswana and extensive walking safaris in the South Luangwa in Zambia.
